NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – THE Al-Shabaab terror group has killed an unspecified number of Kenyan police after crossing to the northeast of the country from Somalia.
In the early hours of Thursday gunmen attacked the Arabia police post in the Mandera County a week after killing over 50 troops at a Kenya Defence Forces base in Somalia.
It has been a challenge for the police headquarters in Nairobi to ascertain the exact number of casualties after the militants destroyed communication infrastructure at the police post therefore disrupting communication between the main office and the regional post.
“There is no communication with officers on the ground. As such, we do not have much details for now but I can confirm there was an attack. We have dispatched more officers to the scene,” regional county commander, Mohamud Saleh, said.
The Islamic militant Al-Shabaab has over the last few years been carrying out deadly attacks in Kenya as a protest to the presence of the Kenyan army in an international force on a mission to quell insurgency and other political crises in Somalia.
Last Friday, Al-Shabaab claimed it had killed 57 soldiers at the Kenyan army’s Somali base.
