Kipyegon beat fellow African rival, Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba, who came second.
Kipyegon won in 4 minutes 8.92 seconds while Dibaba was second on 4:10.27 with the United States’ Jennifer Simpson coming third on 4:10.53.
Dibaba led the pack initially but Kipyegon intensified her tempo and burst to claim the pole position in the second half of the race.
Kipyegon is regarded as the fastest female in the world in 1 500 metres.
