THIS past week, my prayers to Jehovah God sounded too ambitious and unrealistic.
That is when my family asked me to lead in our daily evening prayers.
Firstly, I asked my wife Chiedza Chokera-Kwinika, my beloved son Parker and daughter Khesani to give testimonies to Jehovah God before we could embark on prayer and thanksgiving.
After the three had given their testimonies, I gave mine too, inspired by my recent business trip to Orlando, Florida in the United States of America.
When the testimonies were done, I started preaching from around 21h00 until 22h30.
I remember teaching my family that it is possible for our family to become Jehovah God’s family friend.
They all looked at me as if it was impossible, but little Khesani concurred.
“Yes dad, this family can always be God’s friend,” she agreed.
But how possible is that?
Admittedly, I’m a sinner, who at times transgresses knowingly while at times committing such sins mistakenly, but I stood before my family to express deep desire to become Jehovah God’s friend together with them.
I told my family that to please Jehovah God is not about giving cash to pastors, churches or bishops, but through exercising LOVE, FAITH and developing HOPE in the Almighty Jehovah God.
The first such a biblical person to come to mind was Abraham.
According to James 2:23, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called God’s friend.”
I further shared with my family the difference between obeying religious leaders and Jehovah God. Sometimes when one obeys Jehovah God, in the eyes of human beings, one can be mistaken for being stubborn, pompous or mischievous.
The same verse in the New Living Translation states: “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith. He was even called the friend of God.”
The English Standard Version reads: “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” He was called a friend of God.
To be a friend of Jehovah God is so exciting that one is privy to special information from the kingdom of heaven and is supremely reliable with it.
Further supporting my evening teaching was in the book of Isaiah 41:8, where the prophet preaches, “But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, you descendants of Abraham my friend.”
The same verse in the New Living Translation reads: “But as for you, Israel my servant, Jacob my chosen one, descended from Abraham my friend.”
The English Standard Version states: “But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend.”
Another person who thrills me is Enock. He personally was walked with Jehovah God. I really always want to develop such deep personal relationship with Jehovah God than putting trust in religious leaders first.
This is the message I shared with my family this week.
Genesis 5:24 reads: “Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.”
The same verse in the New Living Translation states: “Walking in close fellowship with God. Then one day he disappeared, because God took him,” while the English Standard Version reads, “Enoch walked with God, and he was not, for God took him.”
I further shared with my family that when one obeys Jehovah God, there are some huge benefits to be realised.
Such benefits include blessings, divine promotion, divine protection, eternal life, joy and peace.
According to Exodus 33:11, “Inside the Tent of Meeting, the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend. Afterward Moses would return to the camp, but the young man who assisted him, Joshua son of Nun, would remain behind in the Tent of Meeting.”
The English Standard Version reads: “Thus the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. When Moses turned again into the camp, his assistant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from the tent.”
In conclusion, I gave a warning to my family. When one stops being a religious follower and stops committing oneself fully to God, conflict always erupts with fellow believers, especially those that follow religious doctrines at the expense of Jehovah God.
Those loving to be Jehovah God’s friend say amen!
