Cop killed in Kenya guesthouse attack

NAIROBI, (CAJ News) – A police reservist has been killed during a shootout with alleged Al-Shabaab terrorists in a terror-prone region east of Kenya.
Police reported officer Abdirahman Mohamud was killed after militants attacked a guest house in Mandera town yesterday (Monday).
He was guarding the residence of Deputy Governor Omar Maalim Mohamed nearby the guesthouse Al-Shabaab attacked suspecting it was housing foreigners.
Mohamud was killed as he reacted to the shootings.
There were no injuries or casualties recorded at the guesthouse. At least 12 people were killed and six seriously injured in October during an attack on another guesthouse.
Mandera town is hotspot for the Islamic militant Al-Shabaab.
It is under dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed until March 28 following the October deadly attack.
Kenya police north eastern regional coordinator, Mohamud Saleh, said they had intensified operations to stop terror activities in the region.
The Al-Shabaab from neighbouring Somalia has been carrying out terror attacks in Kenya in reaction to the presence of Kenya troops in the crisis-torn Somalia.
