LIBREVILLE, (CAJ News) – THE Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have taken control while hosts Gabon are in a uncertain position in Group A of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Four time winners Cameroon’s come-from behind 2-1 win over debutantes Guinea Bissau in Libreville have enhanced their chances of booking a berth in the next round of the competition.
They had suffered a scare at the Stade de l’Amitie Sino-Gabonaise as Piqueti Djassi Brito Silva (13th minute) gave the African Wild Dogs an early lead with a brilliant individual goal that is a contender for goal of the tournament.
However, their experience carried them through as goals by Sebastien Siani (61’) and Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui (79’) left them leading the group with four points.
Guinea Bissau are last with a single point collected in the opening match against Gabon.
The Gabonese Panthers were again unconvincing against The Stallions of Burkina Faso in an earlier match at the Stade de l’Amitie Sino-Gabonaise.
Gabon, who were booed in the tournament opener, fell behind a Prejuce Nakoulma 23rd minute goal from a straight-forward counter attack.
Germany-based secured a point with a 38th minute penalty.
The hosts lie third on two points, the same as Burkina Faso.
The final Group A matches are on Sunday with Gabon playing Cameroon in Central African derby while Burkina Faso and Guinea Bissau will contest a West African derby.
